GamerCon 2017: Samuel “nyreen” Nyrén Interview
This interview was audio recorded on the morning of the 18th of March prior to the tournament kicking off.
I’m here with nyreen from Dead Element Gaming. How confident are you coming into this event?
I’m really confident in myself and also in the team at the moment. We have done a lot of practise. I feel like we could have done some things better in practise but I’m happy with how it was.
Do you want to tell me a bit about the roster you are coming to this LAN with, what each players roles are?
First we have both Dean and Freddy that have been the callers for the team, with the rest of the team helping. Then we have Pachenko on the entry role and we have nLine as the guy who comes second in, and I’m awping.
Is this your first proper team or have you played in teams before?
This is my first really proper team if I can say so. I’ve played in some teams that are ok I guess but this is the first team where I feel like we can really get somewhere.
Did you start off in CSGO, or play some 1.6 and Source?
I actually played both, 1.6 and Source until before CSGO came out.
We’ve only been here for a few hours. What’s your opinion on the event as a whole, the PCs, etc.
The PCs are really good I think, but what I find really annoying is the delays we’ve had. We came here at like 11:00 and we haven’t played a match yet and it’s soon 15:00. That’s really bad if you ask me.
I’ve found with most Irish events, they say it’s supposed to start at 10:00 or 11:00, then you’re waiting a few hours but it gets going at a reasonably fast pace afterwards…(Editors note: I was wrong here) Ok, you’re a fairly active team online. What sort of events are you planning on playing in the future, what leagues are you playing?
Online, we are gonna grind everything, the leagues like CEVO and ESEA and I hope with LANs it would be really cool if I could take the team to Sweden, my home country.
Maybe a Dreamhack?
Dreamhack or Copenhagen Games in Denmark.
Are there any teams you have been preparing for prior to this event?
Not really, we just prepared ourselves. We know we can, if everyone does work in the matches get to the final.
I’m particularly interested in the fact that you have come from Sweden to here, obviously it’s pretty much the home of Counter Strike. What made you decide to play in a team like this instead of a Swedish team?
Before my past team I played in another international team, a UK team and I really enjoyed it, and I want to try something new, and hopefully some more international LANs.
Would you come back to an Irish event in the future?
Oh yeah.
Is there any player at the event you are looking out for?
No, I feel comfortable and have no one to fear. I think I am one of the top players here to be honest, so I’m comfortable as fuck.
What are your expectations, what is your goal for this event?
To win the tournament, but if we get into the final or semi-final I will be happy.
Top 4 is the minimum then?
Yea.
Any shoutouts at all?
I want to give a shout out to our manager Paul, from the org that we play for, Dead Element Gaming who made this possible for us.
